Nintendo has just issued a short statement announcing that president Satoru Iwata has passed away at the age of 55.
The statement reads:
Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.
Satoru Iwata, the CEO of Nintendol died on Saturday July 11th at the age of 55 after battling cancer for over a year. The gaming company released information about his death in a statement & revealed that he suffered from a bile duct growth.
As the company’s fourth president, Iwata played a pivotal role in the growth of various franchises like Pokemon and Super Mario. He oversaw the launch of the Wii console system, the handheld Nintendo DS and the Amiibo interactive figurines. May his soul rest in peace..
