Buckingham Palace reacts to image of seven-year-old Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen mother giving a Nazi salute

British Tabloid newspaper today Saturday July 18th published images showing a then six year-old Queen Elizabeth II giving a Nazi salute in the early 1930s. She was with her 3-year-old sister Princess Margaret and her uncle, who would later be crowned Edward VIII. The dramatic headline on the story read; Their Royal Heilnesses – a reference to the ‘Heil Hitler’ greeting used in Nazi Germany.

Buckingham Palace released a statement through a spokesman saying “It is disappointing that film shot eight decades ago and apparently from HM’s (her majesty’s) personal family archive has been obtained and exploited in this manner.”

The Sun also published a separate explanation of why it decided to run the footage, saying the images must be seen in their historical context.

“These images have lain hidden for 82 years. We publish them today, knowing they do not reflect badly on our Queen, her late sister or mother in any way.

“They do, however, provide a fascinating insight into the warped prejudices of Edward VIII and his friends in that bleak, paranoid, tumultuous decade.”

Official photos from Royal baby, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana"s christening

Kessington Palace has released official photos from the christening of of Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton which held at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in the Queen’s Sandringham Estate in England on Sunday July 5th.

In the main family portrait, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and Prince William sit together on a parlor sofa in the drawing room at Sandringham House with Prince George, 2, Princess Charlotte, 2 months, and Prince William’s paternal grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Standing behind them are Michael, Pippa, James, and Carole Middleton, alongside Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke of Edinburgh.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their whole family had a wonderful day on Sunday and were delighted to share the special occasion with the thousands of people who came to Sandringham,” a Kensington Palace spokesperson said in a press release about the portraits. “They are very happy to share these photographs and hope that everyone enjoys them as much as they do.”
