This terrorist attack is still underway in Tunisia. At least 27 tourists have been killed and many others are running for their lives in Hotel Riu Imperial Marhaba, a 5-star beach front hotel in Sousse town in Tunisia as gunmen suspected to be Islamic militias stormed the hotel and opened fire.

Foreign tourists who were relaxing on the El Mouradi Palm Marina near the hotel were first targeted and killed before gunmen stormed the nearby hotel which is in a quiet remote beach.

Police in Tunisia is currently engaging the gunmen in a fierce gun battle. Just one gunman has so far been killed. Many bodies are said to be lying on the beach. Most of the people killed are believed to be foreigners as the hotel is said to be popular amongst European holiday makers.

This morning’s attack follows a similar attack in March, where three terrorists attacked the Bardo National Museum in the Tunisian capital city of Tunis, and took hostages. Twenty-one people, mostly European tourists, were killed at the scene while an additional victim died ten days later.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, the deadliest involving foreigners in Tunisia since a 2002 suicide bombing on the island of Djerba.

Tunisia Interior minister said this attack (still ongoing) was not just to kill people but to destroy the economy of the country. Some photos from the scene below… and it’s happening at 2 separate hotels.

White House spokesman has just put out a statement on today’s terror attacks:

The United States condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks in France, Kuwait, and Tunisia today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of these heinous attacks, their loved ones, and the people of all three countries. As the President has discussed with his French, Kuwaiti, and Tunisian counterparts in recent weeks, we are resolute and united in our shared effort to fight the scourge of terrorism.

We stand with these nations as they respond to attacks on their soil today, and we have been in contact with appropriate counterparts in all three countries to offer any necessary support. Terrorism has no place in any society, and the United States will continue to work closely with our international partners to combat terrorist actors and counter violent extremism around the globe.
